My mother and I share many tendencies. One is our love of a simple color palette. I used to joke that she never wore anything but brown, black and grey. I guess the jokes on me now because that pretty much defines my style too.
Jewelry, by its very nature, tends to be outside these bounds. For my mother this means avoiding it all together (I can count on one hand the number of times I have actually seen her wear jewelry). It is probably clear by the existence of this blog that I don't follow that philosophy. Still there are pieces for the more daring and then there are pieces that go with anything, pieces you return to again and again.
Countless articles list what those pieces are. Unfortunately these are usually written by people who sell the very things they are recommending. When it is a Diamond Company telling you how many diamond pieces you need to buy, Sotheby's telling you how many antique pieces you should have, or a Pearl Designer telling you how many pearl pieces you should own some suspicion is a little normal.
That being said there is some truth to the idea of having classic pieces that go with anything. Selling Art Deco and designing my own jewelry I get to see a lot of pieces in a lot of formats. Combining this with my love of simple pieces that can are easy to wear I have created my own list. So....
Top Classic Pieces every woman should own.
1. Stud earrings (pearl and/or diamond)
2. The "go with anything" necklace
3. The Birthstone piece (or other gemstone)
4. The classic pearl strand
5. The Bracelet
6. The personalized piece
7. Honorable mentions
I will be putting each of these up as its own post. Jewelry has a tremendous amount of diversity. Each post will list different styles, materials and price points. I am more than happy to accept suggestions or comments. What is your most-worn piece of jewelry?
