Anniversaries, or rather the days before, are what keeps the jewelry industry, the floral industry, and to some extent, the chocolate industry in business. If you google anniversary gifts you get a barrage of instructions that are confusing. Should you get paper or cotton for the first anniversary? And what do you buy that is paper? To make this more confusing there are gemstones for each anniversary and flowers for each as well.

A few basic tips for guys:
1. Understand that it is the thought that counts....
2.  that being said surprising someone with a really nice gift goes a long way
3. you get extra points for getting the right gift on the right anniversary but they are more like the Pirate Code, aka "really more of guidelines."
4. Never underestimate a really thoughtful and well written card.
5. Use Etsy. Honestly it is like cheating. You don't have to do any research, they already have.
